A Word About Pete…
Chris DeMarco was inspired to deliver this speech in at the HDHM appreciation event where Pete announced his retirement. Several months later Chris felt called to offer to take over leadership responsibilities to keep HDHM from dissolving. Chris feels blessed and grateful to Pete and the Board for having confidence in him to carry on the mission.
This HDHM Appreciation Event Speech Says it all About Pete…
I have had the good fortune of assisting Pete and watching him in action on many fund raisers over the past several years. We have identified numerous clients with extreme hardships over the past several years including...
The single mom who could not afford therapies for her 3 non-verbal boys with autism...
The hard-working parents with minimum wage jobs who could not afford a hospital bed for their son with severe cerebral palsy...
The single mom with a 6 year old boy with autism who works at Taco Bell and who was being evicted from her apartment...
The single mom with a 12 year old son diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma who had to stop working to care for him...
The common denominator for these and many other cases is that they include faith filled, hard working and loving families who, through no fault of their own were facing extreme challenges. And Pete and HDHM was there for them with a helping hand.
When we first meet with the clients Pete usually provides an overview of the HDHM ministry and mission and how his calling came one Sunday at St Joes when he heard the Gospel where Jesus declared that “Upon this Rock I will build my Church.” And that although Jesus was talking about St Peter, the Bossman felt like God was encouraging him to start the HDHM ministry.
Pete makes no promises when we meet with potential “clients” but he has faith that God will provide through the generous HDHM donor community. And he has not been wrong in my experience God has always provided just enough to help these families deal with their immediate crisis. And in every feel good meeting to deliver the check Pete is intentional about giving credit to Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
For the past 25 years God has been the musician of this great ministry and we have been Gods instruments led by Pete. Whether you were on the receiving end or giving end of this ministry we have made great music together. If you raked leaves, donated financially, were a professional contractor or weekend warrior who helped on home makeovers, you all played an important part in the symphony.
I know I speak for many of our appreciation to Pete for providing the opportunity to help others. The ministry enables us to do good deeds and have fun along the way. But most importantly it has allows us to be Good Samaritans by doing God’s work to help others. The ministry has taught and inspired us to do good works and I know we will all continue to make beautiful music throughout our lives by helping others thanks to Pete.
